How quickly should a RCD trip?

AS/NZS 3760:2010 specifies the maximum “trip time” a RCD must switch off the power to the circuit along with the recommended frequency of testing.
Type 1 RCD’s shall trip at no greater than 40 milliseconds at a test current of 10mA a.c.
Type 2 RCD’s shall trip at no greater than 300 milliseconds at a test current of 30mA a.c.
